Teen Fohawks

The "fohawk" is a mild Mohawk where the sides of the hair style may be shorter than the top, but they are not shaved.
Fohawks are styled with hair gel, hairspray, or other chemicals to hold the hair's shape, and they can be a fun punk look anyone can try without committing to a more severe style. Fohawks are frequently popular with teens, and there are many fohawk styles to try.
Front Fohawk

A fast fohawk look is easy to make by simply elevating the bangs of a business haircut without raising the rest of the style.
This is a popular look among younger professionals, and it is a good way to keep slightly longer hair under control for a sophisticated but still trendy look.
Dreadlock Fohawk

Short dreadlocks can be styled into a minimal fohawk, but will require strong hair gel or pomade to keep the locks in place.
However dreadlocks can be heavy, so it may also be necessary to use bobby pins or small hair clips on the interior of the fohawk to keep it secure.
Very Short Fohawk

A man with very short hair can still enjoy a fohawk hairstyle easily. Depending on the hair's texture, it may be possible to create this look with very short hair just by combing the hair in the right direction to create the central ridge, though a light spritz of hair spray can ensure it stays in place.
Long Bangs Fohawk

Styling a complete fohawk with longer bangs gives the overall look more edge. The longer the hair, however, the stronger the styling product required to keep it fully elevated.
Choose a strong hair gel or pomade to stiffen the locks to their most upright for a thick fohawk that won't lose structure after just a few hours.
Curly Fohawks

Guys with curly hair can still enjoy a coifed fohawk look. The sides of the hair should be shorter to keep those curls under control, but the top of the hair can be pulled up into the elevated fohawk and kept in place with styling gel.
Leaving the very top of the style to curl naturally gives it a distinguished yet fun look.
Lady Fohawks

While fohawks are generally more common for men, they can also be an avant garde look for women. Very fine hair can be elevated easily with a non-shiny gel or strong hair spray for ultra volume in the fohawk look.
The sides of the hair should be slicked back to sharpen the look and add more hair to the back of the style to counter the length of the bangs.
Messy Fohawk

Long hair can be styled into a messy fohawk by using minimal product and bobby pins or small clips to keep the hair in place. This is an especially modern look when combined with layered hair colors, so the underlying color is revealed when the hair is raised. Extra teasing will add volume to the style, and a volumizing hair spray creates drama and keeps the style in place.
Fohawk Segments

Create a segmented fohawk by tying the hair along the crown into small, even ponytails and wrapping a small section of hair around the base of each ponytail to hide any elastics. This is a good way to create a fohawk by using less product, though hairspray can still useful to keep the longer ponytails more upright and centered in the style.

Ultra Long

Long hair is more difficult to style into a fohawk, but it is possible with the right products. Ultra hold hair spray or gel should be used on the roots of the hair to hold the base of the style securely, and additional spray can keep the ends of the hair upright. This is a great punk look when it isn't possible to do a more severe style.
Children's Fohawks

Fohawks are particularly popular for styling young boys' hair, since the style is easy to do and keeps the hair under control no matter how rambunctious the day's activities may be. A small amount of medium hold hair gel can help create this look for a young boy without difficulty, and a few strands of hair can be left lower on the forehead for the look of styled bangs.
Colored Fohawk

While a fohawk may not have as much punk edge as a truly shaved Mohawk, adding punk hair color to the central ridge - either just on the front or along the entire style - will give the style a more radical look. This is a great way to use temporary hair color as well.
